Niketa Mehta suffers miscarriage
Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) Niketa Mehta, who had moved the Bombay High Court to abort her foetus that had been diagnosed with congenital complete heart block, had a miscarriage on Tuesday night.
Niketa's husband Mr Haresh Mehta confirmed this yesterday and said, ''God is great. The court did not allow us to go for abortion, but God was with us.'' Niketa, who was 24 weeks pregnant, and Haresh had moved the Bombay High Court, seeking changes in the law, allowing them to abort the foetus, as abortion of foetus after 20th week of pregnancy was not allowed.
However, the High Court had dismissed their application on August 4, observing that medical experts did not express any ''categorical opinion that if the child is born it would suffer from serious handicaps''.
The couple thanked the almighty for sparing their child a life of agony and are hopeful that they will get healthy child in the future.
Currently Niketa was in her 27th week of pregnancy.
