NH 39 disrupted for 8th day
Kohima, Aug 14 (UNI) Heavy traffic on National Highway 39, the life-line of Nagaland and Manipur, remained disrupted for the eighth day today as a stretch between Zubza and Kohima caved in.
Official sources said the Border Road Task Force(BRTF), a unit of Border Road Organization (BRO) under the Ministry of Defence, was battling nature to repair the sinking span, but heavy rain was creating havoc. Some other areas on NH 39 was also sinking. The traffic police of Kohima district was allowing light vehicles and buses without passenger to pass the area. Over hundred trucks from Dimapur carrying essentials and petroleum for Nagaland and Manipur were still stranded.
Prices of essential commodities were soaring. Some petrol pumps in Kohima were closed due to non-supply of petroleum fuel. Some people were bringing petrol and diesel from Dimapur in small portable cans.
Meanwhile, landslides were reported from many parts of Kohima town and a family had a close shave yesterday when their house was destroyed. None was inside the house.
