Haryana to invest rs 7643 cr on power transmission

Chandigarh, Aug 14 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to invest Rs 7643 crore to strengthen the infrastructure for transmission of electricity and spend Rs 6514.32 crore to further strengthen the distribution system.

This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in his message on the eve of Independence Day.

With a view to abridging gap between demand and supply of power, the state government not only initiated the setting up of new power generation plants, but also signed power purchase agreements to get 3044 MW electricity for next 25 years, he said.

With the signing of these agreements, the state would cross the milestone of targeted additional 5000 MW of power as now its capacity would exceed 6000 MW.

''The present state government had assumed office about three-and-a-half years ago with a commitment to make Haryana number one State in the country in all spheres of development.

Therefore, we took many historic and unprecedented decisions and implemented a number of innovative schemes under the guidance of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and visionary Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,'' Mr Hooda said.

''We not only fulfilled the promises made in our election manifesto, but also implemented those programmes which were never promised, but were required to improve the quality of life of the people. Not only the pace of development has been accelerated, but focus is also being laid on those areas which have remained neglected in the past. We have created two new districts of Mewat and Palwal and ensured clean and transparent administration,'' he added.

Mr Hooda said today Haryana was the most preferred destination among investors and ranked second in per capita income after the small state of Goa.
