Five labourers injured as Bofors shell explode in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Five labourers were injured after a Bofors shell exploded at village Khandroo in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, official sources said today.

They said five labourers were working, when a shell exploded last evening.

The injured were hospitalised, they added.

Hundreds of Bofors and other shells remained unexploded after a major fire in one of the biggest arms depot at Khandroo on August 11, 2007 resulting in the deaths of more than 20 people, including a senior Army officer and fire fighters.

About half-a-dozen civilians were also killed after unexploded shells went off in the civilian areas.

About 100 Bomb Disposal Squad(BDS) airlifted from different parts of the country took more than a month to defuse the unexploded shells in the fields, orchards and residental areas in about a dozen adjoining villages.
