AASU fast for Assam Accord
Guwahati, Aug 14(UNI) The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today began a 30-hour Assam bandh demanding immediate implementation of Assam Accord.
On the 23rd anniversary of the Accord the AASU leadership started the fast at 0600hours.
Later, addressing a press conference at the fast venue near Dighalipukhuri, AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya said the Congress government had systematically supported Bangladeshi immigrants for the vote bank.
" We are still following the non-violence path but authorities seem not to pay heed to it," he said adding that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had failed on all fronts.
The AASU was also highly critical of Mr Gogoi's reported remarks targeting the judiciary and said he should have avoided such a confrontation.
