Youth dies; life crippled due to nationwide 'Chakka Jam'

New Delhi/Kanpur, Aug 13 (UNI) A Kanpur youth lost his life today due to lack of treatment during the two-hour-long nationwide 'Chakka Jam' called by the BJP and the VHP against the revocation of land transfer to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) as traffic snarls were the order of the day across the country.

Twenty two-year-old Santosh suffered burns after coming in contact with a live wire in Vijay Nagar area of industrial city of Kanpur and succumbed on way to hospital as the people who were taking him got stuck in the 'Chakka Jam'.

Traffic blockade at more than 6,000 places across the country were reported during the agitation.

Calling the 'Jam' as ''highly successful'' VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia told UNI that nearly 450 trains were stopped at various points all over the country and added that no violence was reported from anywhere.

''The 'Chakka Jam' was entirely peaceful and a grand success.

People voluntarily came out in support of the 'Jam' and no one protested the move,'' he said.

In the national capital, traffic was thrown out of gear and people were highly inconvenienced this morning during the 'Chakka Jam' which lasted for two hours, between 0900-1100 hrs.

The peaceful agitation saw several office-going people left stranded at various points.

VHP sources said the 'jam' was carried out at 22 locations, including Vikas Marg, Akshardham temple, ITO, Wazirpur, Ashram, Moolchand crossing, Khajuri Chowk, Delhi-Noida-Delhi Express Highway, Delhi Cantonment, Uttam Nagar and Dhaula Kuan.

Vehicular and rail traffic in Uttar Pradesh was thrown out of gear following the two-hour long 'Chakka Jam'.

Railway services were suspended across the state with several long distance trains delaying for over one hour.
