It is an exotic cake exhibition, showcasing six of the new Seven Wonders of the World, which is proving a great attraction at the ongoing international consumer exhibition. The exhibition is showcasing a host of consumer services and goods like plush leather sofa sets and massage chairs, mobiles, laptops and water heaters besides exotic varieties of tea, beetle nuts, pickles and garments, but it is the assortment of unusual cakes depicting wonders of the world that is drawing curious visitors.
Made with the usual ingredients used in baking cakes, these visual delights are mammoth in size. The Great Wall of China, the Roman Colosseum, Mt. Machu Pichu of Peru, the Petra of Jordan and the pyramid of Egypt are some of the new wonders made in the form of cakes.
The five-foot cake in the shape of the Taj Mahal, made with 450 kg of icing sugar, 600 eggs and 1000 ml of essence, took the centre stage.
Many lovers who have not yet visited the Taj Mahal were seen looking at the cake version of the eternal monument of love longingly.
For the organisers this is the first time that such an innovative exhibition was being held in the country.
"This kind of exhibition does not happen anywhere else in the country. We are doing it for the first time. We have made the Seven Wonders of the World and by the means of seeing you can know the magnitude of the size of the cake what we have made," said Radha Krishnan, National Head Of International Consumer Exhibition.
For some of the visitors the concept appeared to be a perfect blend of gourmet and general knowledge for the children.
"Now the children can know about the Seven Wonders of the World. Before this we all knew about them in the post history but they have shown the Seven Wonders in different way," said Latha Maheswarai, a visitor.
The total weight of the ingredients used to make cakes of six of the new Seven Wonders of the World was 3000 kilograms while the total expense for making these cakes was 330,422 dollars. It took 50 workers, including 15 craftsmen, to make these wonders.
