Tiruchirapalli, Aug 13 (UNI) Security has been stepped up in airport, bus stands, shopping malls and commerial areas here ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
According to police, security arrangements had been strengthened in the reverred Sri Ranganathaswamy, Srirangam, Rockfort, Sri Jembukeswarar Akilandeswari, Tiruvanaikovil, Samayapuram Sri Mariamman temples, and other places of worship in and around the city.
Apart from existing police check posts, a few temporary check posts had been set up in all vulnerable areas for carrying out a constant vigil over the movement of vehicles and people, particularly outsiders.
The rural district police have formed separate teams to check lodges, vehicles and patrolling as part of heightened security. A detailed bandobast scheme has been drafted for the August 15 celebrations as a precautionary measure, police said, adding bomb detection and disposal squad personnel were conducting checks at railway stations.
The Railway police along with RPF and RPSF personnel were frisking train passengers and scanning their luggages before allowing them to enter the stations and trains.
The Divisional Railway administration has suspended booking of luggages for the next three days from yesterday.
Elaborate police bandobast and intensive patrolling were being made in all rail routes and other important railway installations in Tiruchirapalli division of the Southern Railway, Railway police sources said.
