Flood warning issued by Cauvery basin reservoir authorities

Mysore, Aug 13 (UNI) The Cauvery basin reservoir authorities issued flood warning to people living on the banks of the river to move to safer places as reservoirs were reaching their danger marks and water would be released any moment.

The flood gates of Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, near here across river Cauvery are expected to open any moment since the inflow into the reservoir is expected to cross 50,000 cusecs due to incessant rains in the catchment areas in Kodagu district.

The water level was just one feet short of the maximum at 123.60 feet and was restricted to 4577 cusecs.

The Kabini reservoir authorities also issued a flood warning to people living on the banks of the river Kapila to move to safer places following the heavy discharges from the reservoir which already touched the danger mark. The inflow was 30535 cusecs and the outflow 30292 cusecs. The level was reading 2283 feet against the full capacity of 2284 feet. More outflow was expected from the reservoir since the rains were lashing Waynad in Kerala, which is the catchment area of the dam. The Harangi reservoir also received heavy inflows following continuous rains in Kodagu district.

The inflow was recorded at 13567 cusecs and outflow was 10310 cusecs. The level was maintained at 2858.6 against 2259 feet of maximum level. With continued rains in Hassan district the uthorities of the Hemavathy reservoir, which has been receiving heavy inflows was expected to release water into the river any moment and with inflow of 40,000 cusecs. The level was almost reaching its full capacity of 2922 feet.
