500 students fell sick after taking Mid-day meal

Midnapore, Aug 13 (UNI) Altogether 500 students of a private school in West Midnapore district were taken ill today after taking Mid-day-meal.

District Magistrate NS Nigam said the students of Babcha primary school at Chandra Kona road fell ill after having meal served in the school.

He said twenty students who fell ill seriously had been referred to Chandra Kona hospital.

Mr Nigam said initial reports indicated that the sickness of the pupils was due to food poisoning.

Reason of food poisoning was yet to be ascertained, he added.

A medical team from nearby hospital had reached the spot, chief medical officer Kamal Basu said.
