Three killed, four injured in firing in north Kashmir

Baramulla, Aug 12 (UNI) Three people were killed and four others injured today when police opened fire to disperse a violent mob which defied the curfew and took to streets in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

Official sources said people took to streets defying the curfew restriction and protesting against the police firing in which senior Hurrriyat Conference (HC) leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed yesterday.

As people marched on main road, raising slogans against the government, economic blockade and attack on Kashmiri drivers in Jammu, a security force convoy coming from opposite direction opened fire.

Three processionists were killed and four others injured in the firing, they said.

Thousands of people today violated the curfew at Pattan also and started marching towards Uri as part of the Muzaffarabad march call given by both the factions of the HC.

Raising religious slogans, the processionists demanded immediate opening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for trade.

Curfew was also violated in Khanpora and Pushkar, Tangmarg and Hajan were people took to streets raising pro-freedom slogans.

The processionists included women and children, sources said.

Sources said at least three people were injured when security forces opened fire on a procession at Palhalan in Baramulla district this morning.
