Tsunami affected people to get houses: Pondy

Puducherry, Aug 12: The tsunami affected people of Kalapet would soon get houses with the territorial administration finalising the tender for the construction of 1431 houses on a 25.82 hectare land in the area.

An official release on Tuesday, Aug 12 said work order would soon be issued to the selected contractor, a national-level firm with a turnover of several crores of rupees.

After scrutinising the technical proposal, the Project Implementation Agency(PIA) selected Mahindra Consulting Engineering, Chennai as the project management consulting firm. Each house would be built on a plinth area of 350 sqft and would have a bed room, a hall, kitchen and seperate bath and toilet rooms.The site would have all basic amenities. All the houses would be disaster-resistant.

The administration would construct 7567 houses, out of which, 3460 have been completed, the release added.
