Woman beaten to death by fake baba

Kendrapara, Aug 11 (UNI) A fake baba has beaten a woman to death in Dadapur village under Kaduapada area in the Jagatsinghpur district in a bid to drive away the ''live witch'' from her soul.

Bandana Das (26), wife of Premananda Das, was beaten to death by Kalu Sethy, the baba of the same village last night.

Police said Bandana was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for the treatment of cerebral malaria last month.

She returned to her village after she was cured and discharged from the hospital. But a few days back she fell ill again, the sources added.

Consequently, some villagers suggested her family members to take her to Kalu Sethy, the baba, residing near a temple close to the village for treatment, according to the sources.

'' Kalu Baba told her family members that Bandana was sick as a live witch had entered into her soul. Later on, the Godman did a special puja and started beating Bandana with a bamboo stick to get rid of the evil spirit, '' police further informed.

Unable to withstand the beating, the woman died.

On receiving the information, police reached the spot and seized the body. It was sent for autoposy to the Jagatsingh District Headquarter hospital.
