Tongue offered to Goddess
Satna(MP), Aug 11 (UNI) Driven by superstition, a man slashed his tongue and offered it before the photograph of Goddess Durga, but he died within few hours.
The incident took place at Nagod tahsil town in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district yesterday, police said, adding the victim was identified as a 45-year-old tailor Ghanshyam Kori.
He performed rituals and prayed in front of a photo of Goddress Durg and cut his tongue with a blade to give it as offering to the goddess.
As his condition worsened, his neighbours attempted to take him to hospital, but Ghanshyam prevented them saying he would recover with the blessing of the deity.
The neighbours expecting some miracle indulged in 'Bhajan Kirtan' for about four years after Ghanshyam fainted. As he did not regain consciousness, he was taken to the government hospital at Nagod, where the doctors declared him dead.
Nagod Station House Officer Pannalal Awasthi said the matter was being investigated.
