Rains continue to slash Nashik

Nashik, Aug 11: Incessant rains continued to slash the city and other parts of the district for the third consecutive day on Monday, Aug 11.

The rains started on Saturday, Aug 9 evening and continued till Monday, Aug 11.

Most of the dams in the district have been filled above 50 per cent of their capacities. The rains have provided much relief to the farmers as well as common people as the district is facing drought- like situation due to absence of rain in the first two months of the rainy season.

In the last 24 hours ending on Monday, Aug 11, the city has received 117.9 mm of rainfall.

The rains have thrown the normal life out of gear, with water entering the houses in CIDCO area and in shops on Ramghat on the banks of Godavari, in the city. Vehicular traffic on the Mumbai-Agra Highway is moving slowly and some trains have been stopped at Igatpuri station following water-logging on the rail tracks today, according to latest reports.

According to local weather department sources, the rains will continue for next two-three days.

The Gangapur dam is filled upto 89 per cent of its capacity.

The Darna dam, filled upto 93.57 per cent, has so far released 27,165 cusecs of water. Due to this, the water has begun overflowing the Kaluste-Ghoti bridge in Igatpuri taluka of the district, disconnecting 12 villages in the area. The Nandur-Madhyameshwar dam is filled upto its full capacity and has released 12,767 cusecs of water.
