Kannadigas remember late freedom fighter Nagappa Alva
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) The Kannadigas in the national capital paid rich tributes to veteran freedom fighter and former Karnataka Minister Nagappa Alva on the occasion of his centenary birth celebrations here.
A meeting convened by a local monthly, Dehali Kannadiga, yesterday recalled the services of Dr Alva for his contribution in the freedom struggle, his long stint in the Karnataka politics as a legislator and as the Health Minister of the State. He also was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1970 to 76.
Editor of the magazine M B Samaga urged the Karnataka Government to institute an award in Dr Nagappa Alva's name for the dwindling tribe -- family physicians who were responsible for upholding the health services of their time.
He said it would be a fitting tribute to the late freedom fighter, who himself was a doctor in Mangalore, while holding the position of an MLA of the area.
