Check for illegal migrants from Bangladesh: BJP
New Delhi, Aug 11: Creation of national registry of ciitzens to keep an eye on illegal migrants from Bangladesh has been demanded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP President Rajnath Singh said that it was the need of the hour and it is high time that the Central Government acted on such a demand.
"Now, the population of the Bangladeshi migrants has reached to about three crore. The BJP is of the view that in the whole of northeast a national register of citizen should be created and create identity cards for them. The Indian government should speak to its Bangladeshi counterpart to form a process to detect the illegal migrants and deport them," he said.
Investigations into the blasts in Ajmer, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and recently in Jaipur have shown the alleged involvement of illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
Thousands of migrants from Bangladesh have crossed over into India in search of food and work and spread out across various states as a cheap labour and work force.
They have also changed the demographic order of several states and have become a sizeable vote bank.
To prevent the illegal immigration, the Home Ministry has taken various measures like construction of border fencing, flood lighting and roads to enable more effective patrolling.
