NE militants call for boycott of Independence Day celebrations
Imphal, Aug 10 (UNI) Four militant groups of the Northeastern region today called for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
A joint statement issued here by the proscribed Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) called for the general strike from 0100 hours to 1800 hours throughout the region.
The organisations had called for a boycott of the celebrations in the region as a symbolic expression to oppose ''occupation of the Northeastern region''.
The statement further said, ''Attempts are being made through military tactics to coerce the groups to hold talks.
''Peace talks have not yielded any result even after ten years and will never fulfil the demand of the people for sovereignty,'' the statement added.
