3 get lifer for kidnapping
Nagpur, Aug 10 (UNI) A trial court here has sentenced three persons to life imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs 500 each, on charges of kidnapping a seven-year old boy and trying to extract a ransom from his parents.
Additional Sessions Judge M R Vakil handed down the sentence to the three accused, identified as Rajkumar Dhananjay Ahirwar (21), Mohammed Yusuf Sheikh Imran (21) and Manjit Fulsingh Rathod (22), last week.
According to the prosecution, Rajkumar, Mohammed and Manjit kidnapped Suhas on March 24, 2007 and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh to release the boy. The threesome had also threatened to kill the child if the ransom was not paid.
However, the trio was nabbed by police after they received a complaint from the boy's parents.
The three were booked under sections 363 (kidnapping), 364-A (kidnapping for ransom), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and a charge-sheet was filed in the court later.
