250 devotees, picnickers stranded at cave shrine in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 10 (UNI) As many as 200 to 250 devotees and picnickers were stranded at cave of Gaipernath near Kota, as the steps leading to the cave shrine broke down this afternoon, police said.

At least three people were buried under rocky debris as the stairs caved in due to landslide at the spot situated on the bank of the Chambal river about 25 Km from Kota town, police sources added.

The cave, situated below 250 ft from the road on a rocky outcrop, has an ancient temple of Lord Shiva.

Large number of people visit this place to pay obeisance or go on a picnic.

Today being Sunday, a large number of people were present when the incident occurred around 1530 hrs this afternoon.

According to eye-witnesses landslide occurred twice in a short interval.

Assistance from the Army has been sought to rescue the stranded people, the police said.
