Police seize copies of Daily Etalaat in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 9 (UNI) Police today seized all copies of newspaper ''Daily Etalaat'', both English and Urdu editions, for allegedly carrying reports about the attack on Muslims in Akhnoor by Hindu fundamentalists, official sources said.
An official of the newspaper confirmed that police raided all news stalls and agencies and seized all the copies of both the editions. Newspaper copies from the office of the newspaper at M A link road were also taken away.
He denied the police charge that newspapers were carrying any provocative news.
''We have reported the truth,'' he said.
Meanwhile, breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) has strongly criticised the police action and said this was an attack on the freedom of press.
Seizure of the newspaper copies showed the frustration of the government, who did not want to face the truth, a spokesman of the HC said.
He also condemned the attack on Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma office at Jammu by communal forces.
The spokesman said the newspaper had reported the facts about the actual situation in Jammu, where Muslims and Kashmiri drivers were being attacked by these forces.
