Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) The newly introduced Chennai-Salem express could not be treated as a Superfast Express as it takes six hours and 25 minutes, compared to Cheran Express, which takes just four hours and 35 minutes, Railway passengers have stressed.

In a memorandum to Minister of State for Railways, R Velu, Railway passengers said the new train via Virudhachalam covers 353 km in six hours 25 minutes, while the Cheran Express via Katpadi, covers a distance of 334 km in four hours 35 minutes.

The new train cannot be considered a superfast train and it should be declared as fast passenger, they said.

The timing of the new train was also not convenient as it reaches Chenani Egmore at 0400 hrs. The Railways could add more stops and ensure it reaches by 0500 hrs so that more passengers could benefit by the new train, the passengers added.
