Haryana to distribute hybrid seeds to farmers
Chandigarh, Aug 9 (UNI) The Haryana Agriculture Department has decided to distribute 8050 mini kits of hybrid variety of seeds of pulses and oilseeds to the farmers of the state under the Integrated Scheme of Oilseeds, Pulses, Oil Palm and Maize (ISOPOM) during Kharif 2008.
Stating this here today, a spokesman of the Agriculture Department said that ISOPOM scheme had been implemented in all the districts of the state to give impetus to the cultivation of oilseeds and pulses.
Under this scheme farmers were provided high quality certified seeds on subsidised rates. Subsidy was also given for setting up block demonstration plots and mixed crop demonstration plots on their farms so as to impart them practical training on the hybrid variety and latest technology as developed by the scientists.
He said the area and the production of oilseeds and pulses were not increasing in the country as expected whereas the demand of these crops was on the rise. As a result, the prices of these crops were rising and the country had to import it in large quantity.
