President confers doctorate on Ratan Tata at IIT-Bombay

Mumbai, Aug 8 (UNI) Eminent Industrialist and Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata was today conferred upon the Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai.

President Pratiba Patil conferred the doctorate on Mr Tata at the IIT-B Convocation here today. Mr Tata had been chosen for the doctorate for representing the best traditions of Indian entrepreneurship and innovation.

Ms Patil said Mr Tata was an example of the growing strength and confidence of Indian business enterprises to emerge multinationals with presence across the globe in this century.

In his acceptance speech Mr Tata said the future of the country would be driven by technology and students of IIT should look at their responsibility and continue in their efforts to make the country prosperous.
