Srirama Sena accuses police of torturing activists

Bangalore, Aug 6 (UNI) 'Srirama Sena,' a rightist pro-Hindu organisation, today accused the city police of ''torturing'' some of its activists, against whom ''false'' cases, relating to the recent desecration of religious places of a particular community in the city, were framed.

Talking to newspersons here, Srirama Sena Convenor Pramod Mutalik charged Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Syed Ulfat Hussain with ''torturing'' the activists and alleged that it was done to divert the people's attention from the July 25 serial bomb blasts, which happened due to ''lapse on part of police.'' ''No Hindu organisation was responsible for this. The DCP and the local Legislator Roshan Baig of the Congress want to put the blame on Hindu organisations and harass the activists. We condemn this,'' he added.

Mr Mutalik also demanded the suspension of the DCP.

The Sena would soon launch a 'war' against terrorism and its perpetrators. ''We have enrolled 1,500 members to form a squad for the purpose as the Centre had failed to tackle the issue,'' he added.
