Scribes condemn ultras' threat, no newspaper today in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 6 (UNI) No newspapers were today published in the state as the media fraternity voiced its protest against the militants' threat to journalists and media organisations.

The scribes of Manipur under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) yesterday staged a sit-in protest at the Manipur Press Club here.

A ultra's outfit had ''imposed ban'' on a local newspaper for not properly publishing a press statement. A meeting as been convened today at the press club to hold discussions on the issue.

The newspersons expressed their dissatisfaction over repeated threats made by the militants and decided to unanimously condemn any sort of interference in the functioning of the media.

However, it was decided to resume work from today and boycott all the press releases issued by the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)MC for threatening the media.

The journalists also appealed to all to respect the freedom of the press.
