President to be Chief Guest at the IIT Convocation
Mumbai, Aug 6 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil would be the Chief Guest at the IIT convocation function on its campus at Powai on August 8.
The President would proceed straight to the campus from the Airport to attend the function, an oficial release said here today.
Her staff would travel by a Volvo bus to reduce the number of vehicles in the President's convoy to the required minimum.
The President would arrive here by a special plane at 1130 hrs, She would be received at the airport by Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
The President would return to Delhi immediately after attending the convocation function.
As part of the scheduled programme, the President would declare the convocation open. Thereafter, Ashok Misra, Director, IIT Bombay, would address the convocation, which would be followed by a speech by Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, who is also the Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay.
Industrialist Mr Ratan Tata would be awarded with an honorary degree, 'Honoris Causa'.
Ms Pratibha would present the President of India Medals and Institute's Gold Medals to the successful candidates and deliver the convocation Address.
