Police bust 'chemical racket' in K'taka
Bidar, Karnataka, Aug 6 (UNI) Police have busted a major chemical racket by arresting six persons and seized 40 barrels of stolen chemicals, six fire arms and lethal weapons in a road side dhaba on Hyderabad-Pune National highway at Humnabad in the district last night.
Bidar district superintendent of Police A S Rao told UNI that the police had received complaints from chemical manufacturing companies in Hyderabad that their chemicals consignments was being stolen while being transported.
On a tip off police raided the Dhaba and seized 40 barrels of chemicals, worth about Rs 60 lakh. Police also seized two riffles, a single barrel gun, a double barrel gun, one pistol and one revolver and an air gun besides three knives.
Six persons including the king pin of the racked identified as Nagendrapratap Singh alias Thakur and five of his accomplices.
The police had raided and seized chemicals in the same place during December last year but Thakur had escaped.
"We are not sure of the type of chemicals, whether they are used in making explosives. Samples had been sent for testing," the official added.
