Kanchi police recovers stolen articles worth Rs 1.21 cr
Kancheepuram, Aug 6 (UNI) Police in this district have recovered stolen articles worth Rs 1.21 crore while detaining 32 persons under the Goondas Act.
Speaking to newsmen here this morning, Superintendent of Police (SP) K Periayya said 25 persons were also taken into custody for violating prohibitory orders.
The police were taking all efforts to enforce prohibition strictly and field around 4,231 cases in this connection, over 4,000 people arrested and 53 vehicles seized.
Awareness programmes on preventing accidents were held in 142 places. Action was taken against those violating traffic rules.
As many as seven vehicles had been purchased for making 24-hour patrolling of highways to prevent accidents and robberies and engaging in relief and rescue work in case of mishaps.
In the last eight months of the current year, as many as 2,233 history-sheeters who went into hiding were arrested and sent to prison.
Mr Periayya also warned of action under Goondas Act against anti-socials and those indulging in sand smuggling, illicit arrack dealers, rowdies and robbers.
He also congratulated DySP K Samudrakani for his efforts in crowd management and streamlining traffic to prevent accidents.
