Haryana to hold national level event on Akshay Urja Divas

Chandigarh, Aug 6 (UNI) The Haryana Government, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, will organise a national level function on Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Divas at Panchkula on August 20.

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has been invited as the Chief Guest at the function which is organised every year on the birthday of former Prime Minister and her late husband Rajiv Gandhi, Director of the Department of Renewable Energy and HAREDA Sumita Misra said today.

Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar would be the Guest of Honour and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would preside over the function.

She said to mark the occasion, several events would be organised which included Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja National Half Marathon of 21 km for Men and Women, Rally for School Children for the tricity of Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali for about 15000 students and poster making and slogan writing competitions on Akshay Urja for the children of tricity.

An exhibition on application of Renewable Energy Technologies would also be put up.

She said the winners of National Marathon for Men would be given cash prize of Rs one lakh, Rs 71,000 and Rs 51000 for first, second and third prizes respectively. Same amount of cash prize would be given to the winners of National Marathon for Women, he added.
