Flood alert sounded in 24 villages in Jodhpur

Jaipur, Aug 6 (UNI) Incessant rains during past three days has created flood like situation in several pockets in Jodhpur district forcing the District Administration to sound flood alert in about 24 villages along the course of Luni river, advising denizens to move to safe places.

Normal life has also been disrupted in Bikaner district with heavy downpour in Bajju-Bangadsar region leaving over 150 houses damaged, reports reaching here said.

A UNI report from Jodhpur quoting Divisional Commissioner Kiran Soni Gupta said that Marwar region's major reservoir Jaswant Sagar was overflowing and the discharge from the dam has posed flood threat to over 24 villages along the course of Luni river.

People of these villages have been alerted and advised to move to safe places and the administration had made all arrangements to deal with the situation, she said.

The rains also disrupted traffic on Jaipur-Jodhpur Road and buses were being run via Pali, Ms Gupta added.

Monsoon fury also submerged several pockets in Ramdevra and Pokaran regions in desert district of Jaisalmer.

Another report from Bikaner said that over 150 'kutcha' houses collapsed and several houses developed cracks in two-and-a-half-hour long spell of heavy downpour in Bajju-Bangadsar regions.

In Momasar village under Khajuwala sub division, over 40 shops were flooded rendering huge losses to shopkeepers.
