Bomb hoax alerts police in UT, searches conducted

Chandigarh, Aug 6 (UNI) The district courts complex in Sector-17 here was vacated this morning following a hoax call that a bomb had been planted in the courts complex.

Police sources said that security force personnel immediately cordoned off the court complex and the got it vacated. A bomb disposal squad of the Chandigarh police and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

However after an hours search the police did not recover any explosive device.

Meanwhile keeping in view the serial bomb blasts at Banglore and Ahmedabad, a special search to nab or locate suspected terrorist, anti national and anti-social elements was conducted in Sarangpur village in the Union Territory this morning. Approximately 70 police personal were deployed for this purpose and the entire operation was supervised by a DSP ranking officer.

According to police sources, the entire village was cordoned off by paramilitary force personnel and Punjab Police commandos and approximately 25 parties searched each and every dwelling unit and guest houses ib the village. Sufficient police force from the Operation Cell was put on duty to give a protective coverage to the search parties.

Police officials said that the main motive behind the search was to restrict the movement of anti national elements or terrorists in and around the Ut.

A total of 51 suspects were rounded-up and were let off after due verification.
