15 injured in a police-public tussle

Muzzaffarpur, Aug 6 (UNI) At least 15 people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between police and an irate mob at Madhavpur village under Manihari police station here today.

Police said hundreds of villagers of the Madhavpur under Manihari police station of the district blocked the National Highway 77 in protest against the gruesome killing of a youth, beaten to death late last night by a group of miscreants.

The irate mob pelted stones at the police team, which arrived to lift the blockade. Later, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse it.

Police said three policemen, including an Inspector, were injured during the stone pelting incident, while 12 civilians also sustained injuries in the police lathicharge.

A case had been lodged at the police station against 171 people in this connection.
