Two killed, 18 injured in road and train accidents
Coimbatore, Aug 5 (UNI) Two people, including a lorry driver were killed and 18 injured when a lorry ran over a person before hitting a moving train near Sundarapuram in the city today.
Police said the mishap occurred when the lorry driver on the way to Pollachi, could not control the break of the vehicle and ran over a pedestrian at the railway gate, before hitting a Mangalore-express train. Though a compartment was damaged, there was no derailment.
Both the driver and the pedestrian were killed on the spot.
Eight train passengers and ten others in the lorry were injured.
The deceased were identified as Khadhar Moideen(27), lorry driver and Anandhan(50).
Ten injured were admitted to Coimbatore Medical Hospital and eight others were admitted to private hospital at Sundarapuram.
The train left for Thiruvananthapuram after an hour delay, police added.
