Train service affected as protesters damage track in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 5 (UNI) Train service from Jammu Tawi railway station got affected today after protesters demanding restoration of land to Amarnath board damaged track at Ghagwal in Samba district, official sources said.

''The trains have been halted at Jammu Tawi station and checking of rail track is going on. The resheduled timing will be posted on Indian railways website for the facility of passengers,'' a railway spokesman from New Delhi told UNI.

The trains scheduled to leave jammu tawi station were not moved after the news of protesters damaging track at Ghagwal, a police source told UNI.

Several passengers approached this office to know about the trains' schedule and expressed anguish over the unavailability of information to them from Railway authorities as ''no one picks up telephone numbers at Jammu railway station''.

However, Railway officials at Jammu Tawi railway station were not available on their telephones for comment.
