Several trains cancelled after protesters damage track in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 5 (UNI) Almost all the trains from Jammu Tawi railway station were cancelled today after protesters, demanding restoration of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), damaged track at Ghagwal in Samba district, official sources said.

Trains including 0414 Jammu Tawi-Varanasi Special, 8102 Jammu Tawi-Tatanagar Muri Express, 2414 Jammu Tawi-Ajmer Pooja Express, 4610 Jammu Tawi-Rishikesh Express, 4034 Udhampur-Delhi Mail, 2446 Udhampur-New Delhi Uttar Sampark Kranti Express have been cancelled.

''The trains have been halted at Jammu Tawi (JAT) station and checking of rail track is going on. The resheduled timing will be posted on Indian Railways website for the facility of passengers,'' a railway spokesman from New Delhi told UNI.

Besides, 2919 Indore-Jammu Tawi Malwa Express has been short terminated at Chakki Bank and will originate as 2920 Malwa Express from Chakki Bank at 1345 hrs tomorrow, while 9223 Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi Express has been short terminated at Pathankot and will originate as 9226 Jammu Tawi-Bhatinda Express from Pathankot at 2350 hrs tonight, a northern railway release tonight stated.

However, there was chaos at the JAT railway station as thousands of passengers were running here and there to get information regarding other trains leaving from there.

Sources said the protesters had damaged the rail tracks at two places in Ghagwal area of Samba.
