Palwal becomes 21st district of Haryana
Chandigarh, Aug 5 (UNI) The Haryana Cabinet today approved the creation of Palwal in Gurgaon division as the 21st district of the state.
The meeting of the Cabinet was held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The new district had been created on the demand of the people of the area.
In March this year Mr Hooda had announced in a public meeting that Palwal would be made a new district. Thereafter, a Committee was constituted by the State Government under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Commissioner, Gurgaon Division, Deputy Commissioners of Faridabad and Mewat as its members to identify the areas to be included in Palwal district.
The Cabinet, on the recommendations of the Committee decided that Palwal would be the headquarters of the new district.
The new district would have three tehsils and sub-divisions of Palwal, Hodal and Hathin. It would have four blocks of Palwal, Hodal, Hasanpur and Hathin.
The district would have 282 villages, a total area of 1,35,933 hectares and a population of over 8.29 lakh. The Palwal district would have Municipal Council at Palwal and Municipal Committees at Hodal and Hathin.
