BJP opposes to postpone Monsoon Session
New Delhi, Aug 5: The BJP on Tuesday Aug 4 opposed any move to postpone or cancel the Monsoon Session of Parliament, saying it was the only forum to discuss all burning issues ranging from price rise, inflation, handling of terror to the latest on Safeguard Agreement approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani had expressed his views earlier in the day that the Parliament Session should be held as per schedule and should not be postponed on any pretext. The two-day special session of the Lok Sabha was only to enable the government prove its majority in the House and the issues that should be debated in Parliament can't be postponed or done away with, he underlined.
Asked if the BJP would allow the session without interrupting the proceedings, Mr Prasad said political divide was an integral part of democracy and there are umpteen number of occasions when the UPA parties had disrupted Parliament while being in Opposition. In any case the issues will have to be debated in the highest democratic forum available to the people of the country, he remarked.
