AP to acquire 25,000 acres for two ports
Hyderabad, Aug 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister M V Ramana Rao today said the government would acquire 25,000 acres of land for the setting up of Vadarevu Sea Port in Prakasam district and Nizampatnam Sea Port in Guntur district.
Addressing a press conference here, he said about 10,000 acres of land would be acquired from the Prakasham district and the remaining from the Guntur district.
The port-based industrial corridor was collectively known as 'VANPIC' project, he said, adding, the projects would be taken up under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Alleging that the Opposition parties were politicising the land acquisition issue, the minister said the government was offering liberal compensation to the displaced.
Observing that the ports were playing an important role in the development of the state, Finance Minister K Rosaiah said the new ports would also provide employment opportunities to the youth in the area.
Mr Rosaiah said the recent Centre's decision of establishing a Ship Building Yard here would promote ancillary industries in the two districts.
