Div Panchayat Officer convicted of bribery

Hyderabad, Aug 4 (UNI) The Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Vijayawada today sentenced Divisional Panchayat Officer in Kovvur in West Godavari District to one-year simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for offences under Sec 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Mohammed Mahaboob Ali would have to undergo three-month simple imprisonment in case of default on fine.

The judge further ordered the accused to undergo one-year simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for the offence under Sec 13(1)(d)r/w13(2) of P C Act, 1988, a press release here said.

In case of default of payment of fine, he would have to undergo another three-month simple imprisonment.

The accused was trapped by ACB officials on December 12, 2003, for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a complainant for doing an official favour.
