Centre extends date for submission of insurance
Hyderabad, Aug 4 (UNI) The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Union Ministry of Agriculture, today agreed to extend the cut-off date up to August 16, for the submission of insurance proposals by non-loanee farmers for Kharif 2008 season, as a special case subject to certain conditions.
Responding to the letter from the Andhra Pradesh government, the Union Governemnt informed the state that the matter had been examined earlier in consultation with the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd.(AIC) which was the implementing agency of National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS).
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister Dr YS Rahasekhara Reddy wroted letter in this regard to the Union Minister Mr.Sharad Pawar on July 31 to extend the cut-off date for coverage of non-loanee farmers under crop insurance on par with loanee farmers upto September, 2008 (Kharif season).
The conditions stipulated by the Centre were the extension will be applicable only to crops sown during the extended period i.e., in the present case after July 31, 2008 and banks to accept the proposals of only non-loanee farmers furnishing the area sown certificate along with the above confirmation, an official release said here.
