Jharkhand's drive to promote adventure tourism

Kolkata, Aug 3 (UNI) The Jharkhand government has earmarked Rs 20 crore for the promotion of adventure tourism in the state.

Participating in the 64th Travel&Tourism Fair (TTF) here, state Tourism Secretary Arun Kumar Singh today said the government will spend some Rs 160 crore for promotion of the adventure tourism in Jharkhand for this fiscal year. Out of total budget, Rs 20 crore would be invested for the same, he added Mr Singh said so far 20 water bodies had been identified for the adventure tourism. Special training was also being given to the youth for its promotion, Mr Singh said, adding call centres would also be engaged for de-stress management under tourism sector.

He said the Baba Vaidyanath Vishwa Mahotsav, to be held between August 16 and August 18, was expected to attract some 40 lakh pilgrims from across the country.

Dancers from Istanbul will present their Sufi dance during the festival to attract the travellers in a big way, he added.

Dansuese Mamata Shankar, Mohit Chauhan and Shivamani and many others have been invited to attend the festival.

A film directed by Prahlad Kakkar, projecting destinations for travellers and important landmarks of Jharkhand, financed by the government was among other things taken up by the tourism department for popularising adventure tourism in the state.
