Remains of 29 victims recovered, DNA tests to be done
Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 2 (UNI) Railway authorities today said they recovered remains and skulls of 29 victims and two bodies from the burnt bogies of Secunderabad-Kakinada Goutami Express Train which caught fire at K Samudram railway station yesterday taking the toll to 31.
Talking to UNI, Railway Superintendent of Police Ravichand, who is also heading the investigation into the mishap, said it was confirmed that 31 people were killed in the incident.
The remains of 29 victims were recovered from the five bogies gutted in the fire.
The bodies of two women recovered from the coaches were handed over to the relatives yesterday.
The remains were sent for post-mortem in Warangal Government Hospital.
Samples were also collected from the remains and bones for conducting DNA test and superimposition to identify the victims.
This would be done at Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad.
The Railway Official said the samples were collected from the bogies by the Forensic Department to find out the cause of the fire.
It would submit its report to the Railways in two or three days.
The investigation into the mishap was under progress, Mr Ravichand added.
