HP to launch highways plantation campaign from Aug 9
Shimla, Aug 2 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department would launch a special plantation campaign from August 9 to 31 to beautify the National and State Highways in the state.
Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Thakur Gulab Singh today said that under the Campaign, more than 1.50 lakh saplings of fruit and ornamental plants would be planted on both the sides of Highways.
He said that plants like Bottle Brush, Silver Oak, Bougainvillea would be planted besides Mango and Jamun saplings.
He said that the roads constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna and NABARD would also be included under the Campaign.
"With the plantation of fruit and ornamental plants on Highways, the look would change and tourists would be attracted to the 'blooming highways', and this would also contribute towards environment protection," he said.
