Youth Commonwealth Games baton relay to reach Gurgaon on Aug 3
Chandigarh, Aug 1 (UNI) The baton relay race for the youth Commonwealth Games 2008, starting today from Delhi, will be reaching Gurgaon on August 3.
It will be received by Sudhir Mohan, Haryana Sports Director and other senior officers of the Gurgaon district administration on behalf of the state government at village Dundahera, on Delhi-Haryana border.
According to H S Boora, Deputy Director with the Sports department and presently posted at Gurgaon, the baton relay race would march towards Maruti Udyog Limited, then to Lt Atul Kataria Chowk. From there it will pass through major parts Gurgaon city.
As many as 80 Olympians, including athelete Shakti Singh, boxer Jitender, hockey player M K Kaushik, to name a few, will be participating in this baton relay race.
From Gurgaon the relay race would proceed for Jhajjar district and then to Sonipat, from where it will enter Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh on August 4.
After traveling about 8000 kilometers in 72 days, starting from Delhi and passing through 199 districts and 9 states like Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, the baton relay race will be reaching Pune in Maharastra on October 9.
The Youth Commonwealth Games commence in Pune on October 12.
Youths between the age of 18 to 35 years from 71 countries will participate in these games.
