Rs 1,000 cr more for AABY to cover extra 10 ml rural landless
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The Government today decided to release an extra Rs 1,000 crore to cover additional ten million rural landless households under the Aam Admi Bima Yojna (AABY) by September 2009.
The money will be deposited in the AABY premium fund to provide for death and disability benefits to the head of the family or an earning member of the family or rural lanndless households in the State and Union Territories that agree to participate in the scheme, Information and broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said after the Union Cabinet meeting that took the decision.
The fund is maintained with the LIC for meeting the liability of the Centre towards the share of premium payment for the beneficiaries.
The scheme, announced in the 2007-2008 Budget, was launched on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 last year .
