Sanjay Dutt rises in true Bollywood style against ordeals
Mumbai, Jul 30 (UNI) Sanjay Dutt like a true Bollywood hero has made a stunning comeback after being released on bail nearly a year back by the Supreme Court, while serving a sentence of six years' rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
Dutt, who had to spent nearly a month in prison in Pune's Yerawada jail, before getting bail from the Supreme Court on August 20, 2007, has seen his life take a turn for the better since then.
The happiest moment for the actor came in his personal life when he got married to Maanyata, who was his third marriage.
He, however, legal complications arose after the marriage.
Following their marriage, Maanyata's former husband Meraj-ur-Rehman Sheikh had moved court on the grounds that she was his legally- wedded wife and as per Muslim Personal Law cannot remarry without divorcing him.
Sheikh had contended before the court that Maanyata's marriage with the actor should be declared null and void.
The lower court had passed an order in favour of Sheikh, after which Dutt appealed to the High Court which granted relief to him, while staying the operation of the lower court order and the actor could finally come out in the open and declare that he had indeed married Maanyata.
The actor, who was silent during the ongoing trial for about 13 years, finally broke his silence and gave interviews to the print and the electronic media.
Dutt also broke his silence to the media and spoke at length regarding his desire to enter politics and contest parliamentary elections.
Insiders say that Dutt may contest the parliamentary elections from Mumbai, after he gets an acquittal from the apex court, where he has challenged his conviction.
Recently Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh met him at his residence and asked him to join the party and contest the elections on SP's symbol.
Dutt's standing as an actor also rose and he gave the mega hit Laage Raho Munnabhai and has some interesting roles in the bag.
His film career is at such a stage that he is flooded with offers and has no dates to offer for the next two years.
Meanwhile, Dutt did not celebrate his 49th birthday yesterday because of the serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad which left many dead.
