Railways was not in losses during my tenure: Nitish
Patna, Jul 30 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today objected to the claim of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad that the department was running into losses when he was Railway Minister during the NDA regime.
''Few people can match Mr Prasad in giving misleading statements on importnant issues, despite him holding a Cabinet berth at the Centre. Mr Prasad has been using the Railways as his personal property,'' Mr Kumar told reporters here.
''The Railways was not running into losses when I was Railway Minister during the tenure of the Vajpayee government,'' Mr Kumar said, adding that Mr Prasad had ''crossed all limits of political decorum'' by making such allegations.
''Mr Prasad has also been misleading the people on profit earned by the Railways and is merely juggling with the figures,'' Mr Kumar said, adding that if the data on the profit of the Railways was true, he should also specify how much of it could be invested and what was its budgetry support.
The Chief Minister said the state government had co-operated with the Railways in acquiring the land required for the 'Rail Wheel Project' at Bela in Chhapra.
Without cooperation from the state government, it would not have been possible for Mr Prasad to launch the construction work of the said project in Chhapra yesterday, he claimed.
