HC asks stoppage of coal and wood for cooking in SSKM
Kolkata, Jul 30 (UNI) In an anti-polllution drive Kolkata High Court ruled today, asking to stop the use of coal and wood for cooking in the states leading hospital SSKM.
A two judge bench presided by Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya passed the ruling after environmental activist Subhash Dutta drew attention of the court to the widespread use of coal and wood in the kitchen of the SSKM hospital, off the citys enduring landmark Victoria Memorial hall.
The court asked the hospital authorities to stop the use of these conventional fuel in a week, and resort to LPG as substitute.
Earlier the court had ordered that coal and wood would not be used in the three km circumference of the Victoria Memorial hall in a bid to protect the white marble of the historical monument.
