Cyber cafe owner in police custody for terror email

Kolkata, Jul 30 (UNI) A city court today remanded a cybercafe owner to police custody for 15 days.

Kaushik Bose, who was arrested last night from his Salt Lake residence cum shop on charges of sending a hoax email to media channels, threatening to trigger bomb blasts throughout the capital city, was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) court this afternoon.

The prosecution prayed for police custody before the CMM who granted the prayer.

Police said Bose will be interrogated to reach the source of the email and the culprits, who masterminded the terror threat in the city last night.

Panic gripped Kolkata and police swung into action after an email reached media houses threatening to destroy Calcutta High Court and several landmark areas of the city.

The email, claimed to have been sent by Indian Mujahideen, threatened that serial blasts would take place in the High Court, City Centre shopping mall, Science City, Nicco park, Eden Gardens, Apollo Gleneagles hospital and posh areas like Salt Lake, Park Street and New Alipore between 2200 hrs and 2300 hrs.

"After North and West, this is the turn of Kolkata. We shall blow away these places in two hours from now. If you can prevent it, do it," the Hindi statement, written in English script said.

The mail also mentioned the number of a car, which would be purportedly used for triggering a blast in front of Calcutta High Court.
